Ooo Bali, I love you so much :D

It’s my perfect location for destination weddings. We had our honeymoon there and we hope that we will retire in Bali :P

I hope all of you are familiar with Ken and Celine by now. If you haven’t, please don’t miss their same day edit (sde) video and also their epic fusion slideshow. They are one of my proud works.

So I won’t talk any further about the couple. They know how much I love them.. muachhh..

As soon as we arrived in Bali, we went straight to Ubud to have our bebek (duck) for lunch and enjoy the rice terrace. Seriously, it was stinkin hot :D
Then, we travelled to hmmm.. to be honest, I had no clue of where it was :P It was such a short session for my liking, but well we had fun anyway drinking coconut during super-hot condition.

I can’t wait to travel with Ken and Celine again this November. But this time, Ken will be my second shooter for the wedding in Bali. Any interest for pre/post wedding for this with myself, Ken or even Ilona, you can shoot me an email to wiki@wikilee.com :D

Ken + Celine are my dearest friend. The wedding were taken place in Tirta Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia. It’s a beautiful wedding where all friends and families come together from different places just for the wedding.

*WARNING! THIS IS A SUPER LONG ENTRY*

One is crazy, fun, neat, pedantic and confident (sometimes too much :P ). The other one is beautiful, humble, friendly and such a cheerful human being to be with. :D

I hope that’s the feeling that you get after watching their SDE video.

Here are my favourites  still pictures that my team and I took.

Just after they finished their breakfast, all boys were having good time together

Herry + Ineke are the nicest friends to Ken and Celine. Not only they made this beautiful personalised wedding cake (I am seriously their big fans. Need their details, please let me know!) but also they flew from Sydney to Bali just to attend their wedding. I heard so many stories of how difficult it was to bring this cake to Bali all over from Sydney. This is why I love this image. So fragile :P

Trisatya is a groomsman for hire *lol* just kiddin.

Love this image to death.

Tri, Ken, Philip

Stephanie, Celine, Agnes

Celine is one beautiful bride whom every photographer dreams to have :D

Love the first meeting.

The blessing ceremony and reception were taken place in Tirtha Uluwatu, Bali. Amazing place!

I love the expressions in this image. Love how Ken’s dad welcomed his son for a hug.

And of course how Ken’s new parents welcomed him

During the tea ceremony

We probably only have 1/2 hour portrait session. But they were so fortunate that they couldn’t pick any better time than the sunset.

Ilona and I finally come back to the very same spot after more than 3 years ago in our early days in Foto Expression. I can only say that I have the best partner in crime :D . Check this out if you are interested to see what I did last time.

They were so lucky for having the best weather at the reception. But it only stayed until all the formalities completed, after that the rain started pouring. They didn’t have much time to enjoy the dancing part. But well, i think the fun’s enough.

Show the SDE video in the best reception.I heard it’s really expensive to rent this out. But for me, it’s worth it :P

I know how much time they spent practicing this dancing. Not bad guys!

Phil and Tri are Ken’s best mates. Phil definitely deserves to receive a bear hug like this.

Team work :D

:D

As mentioned, the rain started pouring when the party just began. But then it stopped for a few minutes. Obviously the boys didn’t waste any time to throw Ken to have his best swim.

Have enough guys??? Here is the fusion slideshow of how I portray their wedding story. If you can’t see it, please visit here.

— Additional note:

In the process of making this fusion slideshow, I have already picked the song a few weeks before I departed to Bali to shoot their wedding. The song title is “Superman tonight” by Bon Jovi. Ken’s a big fans of Bon Jovi. I browsed all of their song collection. I never heard this one before but honestly,  as soon as I found this song, it’s just perfect for them.

Some info for photographers, picking the song is super extremely crucial process of prepping the slideshow or video highlight. I always do it before shooting every wedding I commissioned. It helps to give me a better feeling while shooting the wedding. FYI, I choose the songs based on how I imagine the couple’s wedding would turn out. Normally, I pick 2-3 songs per couple with different genres. But for them, I picked only one song because I knew their wedding could not turn out the other way around. Also I reckon the lyric fits perfectly to their personality. Ken is not the most romantic person I know, but I can sense what he said sometimes was just  a disguise of how he really cares about Celine. And that’s the superman character isn’t it , full of disguise :D

In my career, one thing that I really try to sell is the personalised service. To this point, I only shot three weddings that I gave my special personalised attention. Honestly,  I got to admit the relationship with the other two were a bit unpleasant a few while after the weddings. No idea why? I started to think I was cursed to shoot weddings for someone special and I thought I would never, ever do that again. But When Ken and Celine asked me to shoot their wedding, even though they were my newly found friends, I knew that I can’t just treat them like any other couples, they are too special for me. I knew I would break my own promise, I hope the curse is not true. We can be friends as long as we can. And here we are, I am glad I did it anyway. That’s why I regard their wedding to be my wedding of the year is simply because I felt I was re-born. I want to shoot weddings as if all my clients are my close friends. It’s the best feeling :P

I met Ken for the first time at Foto Expression’s hiring stage. The first impression as soon as I met him that he’s way too tall for photographer *lol*  I could sense his confidence straight away. He definitely got the personality to be a successful wedding photographer. Based on the skill and experience he got back there, he’s definitely my wild card. I bet he even wondered why he was picked :D But now he definitely payback my trust. He is no different to my other team member – trustworthy, creative, super fun, up for any challenge and hunger for more. He shows himself to be a very valuable asset to my team in Foto Expression.

On the other hand, I met Celine for the first time after the first training field day with the new Foto Expression crews. This was the occasion where I needed to be as honest as I could be what area each team member must improve. Since the feedback time was just before the dinner time, Celine tagged along. While giving feedback to everybody, I was impressed she was not falling asleep because I bet she had no clue what I was talking about. Instead she listened intensely as if she was the one who’s being evaluated. That’s my first impression about this girl, Ken was a lucky one. She’s not only beautiful but she’s a good listener too. That’s rare IMHO :P . What I remembered from that night, Ken definitely didn’t have the best time since I gave him a real wake up call of what he needed to improve. But I knew that the fact that to improve, one good photographer must be supported by his/her partner mentally. I reckon she did great so far :D . In my eyes, she is not only Ken’s wife but she’s our dear friend.

Thank you for both of you always giving time to hang out with me and the team so we could build something beautiful in this fellowship. Congrats guys!

Last but not least, special thanks for Marcel and Ilona who came to back me up here… we had the best time, didn’t we?

My wedding assignment of the year (2010).

Their wedding is definitely one of the high notes of over-achievement year in 2010 (I will blog separately what I have achieved last year).

I say that it’s definitely nothing to do because of their beautiful photo or video. However, it’s simply that this is the wedding that makes me to pursue to shoot more weddings like this in the near future.

I love everything about this wedding. The feeling was so mutual that I fought everything I had and they wanted me to be part of their something special.

I will talk more about them in the next post. In the mean time, I will talk more about the process of the making this following movie. The following movie was a same day edit video that we presented at their reception – Tirta Uluwatu. I told you it’s a lot of works as Marcel Gunawan(Foto Expression cinematographer) and I slept much less the night before at the wedding because we needed to prepare some footage we shot :P . It’s difficult because this was a bit of surprise that Ken and Celine were not aware about what this video was about before the presentation. So we needed to sneak out of doing all of this. The reception from this presentation was unbelievable. I just couldn’t remember how many people hugged me because of this presentation :P

The wedding took place in Bali, Indonesia. But the process of making the video was when before I flied from Sydney. I filmed some people who were unable to attend their wedding to say what they think about them. Have you ever judged the couple of how they were so lucky to be together? I wanted to make this video so personal and gives the feeling as their best friends are doing it for them. Well, that’s how we came up with the idea in this video.

Why I love their wedding so much? It’s because their wedding filled with friends and families come together from different place to celebrate their wedding. And my team and I are ones of the guests. Again, the message of what we wanted to show here is PERSONAL. I hope we’ve delivered that.

If you watch this video and feel that sometimes looks like a home video (non-professional works), that’s our intention. In my idea, that’s why the video was made imperfect but I hope it’s perfect for them. That’s what I think about wedding video should be. Something is not cheesy but it’s about moment that the couple can treasure for the rest of their lives because they could see themselves in there.

Call me biased, Ken and Celine are my new good friends whom I knew them since this beginning of the year when Ken joined my special elite group in Foto Expression. Why I want more to shoot about this wedding? I wanted to shoot every wedding as if I am their close friends. The result is darn personal that makes me cried and proud of what I have done in this life.

So enjoy and tell me what you think why their wedding deserves to be my wedding of the year in 2010.
